Penang Umno Youth Tells Lim To Resign

BALIK PULAU, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Penang Umno Youth has urged Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to resign for "not doing what he claimed." ("cakap tidak serupa bikin")

Its treasurer, Aziaan Ariffin, said Lim should also clarify the matter of land conversions which was brought up in the state assembly in August.

"As a state government leader who follows example of Khalifah Umar Abdul Aziz and who also practices the principles of competence, accountability and transparency (CAT), Lim needed to clarify regarding land ownership conversion.

"We (Umno Youth) have lost confidence in him, and therefore urge Lim to resign as he is not qualified to govern this state," Aziaan said at a news conference here Wednesday.

An English newspaper on Nov 1 reported Pulau Betong state assemblyman, Muhammad Farid Saad, as claiming that Lim had misled the state assembly during its August sitting in saying there had been no change in land status between April last year and June this year when there were reports that the state govenment had approved an application to change the status of a piece of land in Georgetown from leasehold to freehold.

The newspaper also reported that a company will build a luxury condominium and a seafood restaurant on the land.

"What is his motive for hiding the approval from the people?, asked Aziaan.

According to new Penang land administration policy, only residential land can be converted from leasehold to freehold.
