(Bernama) The MIC may dissolve inactive divisions and branches as well those saddled with internal problems, said its president, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.
He said the party had given an ultimatum to about 50 divisions and 150 branches to put their house in order.
"If the situation remains unchanged, we will dissolve them. When I visit the branches, the chairmen can't hide anything from me," he told reporters at the MIC's Deepavali open house at the PWTC here Saturday.
Samy Vellu said he and his deputy, Datuk G. Palanivel would visit the problematic divisions and branches to see the situation for themselves.
On the other hand, Samy Vellu said the MIC was awaiting an approval to register 800 new branches nationwide.
MIC has about 3,600 branches.
