KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- The MCA headquarters and supporters of sacked deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek today held a final round of meeting on the party's Oct 10 extraordinary general meeting (EGM).
MCA secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng said central delegates totalling 2,377 may register a day earlier at Wisma MCA from 3pm to 9pm.
He said the two sides agreed on the voting process and that campaign materials be banned from the pre-EGM dinner on the eve and during the EGM.
Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho, a key backer of Dr Chua, was present at the three-hour meeting.
"We will minimise any procedure which might delay the whole process and the result of the voting will be announced as soon as possible," Wong told reporters at MCA's headquarters here.
A recount of votes would take place only if there was a difference of 1 per cent of total votes cast.
The EGM takes place in the aftermath of the sacking of Dr Chua by the presidential council on Aug 26 for tarnishing the party's image following a sex video scandal.
His expulsion however was subsequently overturned by the central committee which punished him with a four-year suspension.
President Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat had accepted all five motions proposed by Dr Chua's team for the EGM, which include a motion of no confidence in Ong and to reinstate Dr Chua back to his former post.
