Najib's cabinet "positive”: Mahathir

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 April 2009: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has described the new cabinet line-up announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak as "positive".

"Najib did very well by dropping most of the people who were accused of corrupt practices although one or two, somehow or rather, slipped in," he told reporters when met in his office at the Petronas Twin Towers here.

"It's positive. None of those who were found guilty of money politics, especially the youth chief, were appointed. This goes to show that Najib wants to clean up the party.

"This is a firm stand taken by Najib. I feel that if he is firm in this aspect, he will also be firm in other aspects," he said.

To a question whether he had a hand in Najib's decision, he said, if he was, then some of those appointed to the cabinet would not be there.

On the appointment of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the deputy prime minister he said, "I think he is qualified for the post because as far as I know, he did not use money to gain support." — Bernama
