JAYA: The Sessions Court yesterday fixed Feb 13 to mention the case of
constable V. Navindran who was charged with causing hurt to detainee A.
Kugan, who died while in custody three years ago.
V.
Navindran, 29, was initially charged with two counts of causing
grievous hurt and two alternative counts of causing hurt to Kugan.
Navindran
was alleged to have committed the offences at the interrogation room of
the Taipan police station at 7am and 4pm on Jan 16, 2009.
The
accused claimed trial on Oct 1, 2009 and was acquitted without his
defence being called. The prosecution appealed and the Shah Alam High
Court allowed the appeal last Thursday when it ordered Navindran to
enter his defence on the two alternative charges.
The accused, who was represented by Datuk P.M. Nagarajan, was granted bail of RM10,000.
Judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz then fixed Feb 13 for mention before Judge Aslam Zainuddin at the Sessions Court in Shah Alam.
