People Urged To Appreciate Peace In The Country - Muhyiddin

TEMERLOH, March 1 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin Tuesday said Malaysians should appreciate the peace enjoyed since the country attained independence in 1957.

He said the people should be grateful that they were living in comfort in a peaceful country compared to the hardship faced by people in the Middle East which were going through troubled time.

"Peace is normal to us. People say that Malaysia is peaceful, calm, there is no rioting, there is prosperity. However, these things enjoyed by the people in the country are not recognised by the opposition," he said.

He said this at a gathering with the people in Mukim Jenderak and Lipat Kajang at Masjid Kampung Kuala Tekal here, Tuesday night.

The economic development and political stability enjoyed by Malaysians today were made possible because of the effectiveness of the government administration led by the Barisan Nasional (BN).

This had enabled Malaysia to be recognised as a model Muslim nation by foreign leaders such as United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, he said.

Meanwhile, the move by the opposition to refute the development and peace enjoyed by the people in the country had affected the entry of foreign investors into Malaysia, he said.

Earlier, Muhyiddin joined the local residents to perform the Maghrib prayer and led the congregation for the Isyak prayer at the Kampung Kuala Tekal Mosque.
