Press Statement
17 September 2010
Parti Keadilan Rakyat is proud to announce (not an endorsement) that the party’s ongoing direct election has created opportunities for many young women to participate and be elected at various leadership positions at an unprecedented level.
The party’s constitution allows any women member to stand for election at any level including the youth wing, women’s wing and at the central level. This is a stark contrast with the limited opportunities for women at other parties as most would be limited to the women’s wing.
The election will also test the party’s commitment to providing at least 30% of women’s participation at all decision making level of the party.
This ongoing process to mainstream women’s participation within the party has also seen several young women heading divisions.
The following non exhaustive list of names are examples of young, upcoming women leaders who have taken this important decision to offer their candidacy for nomination in the election for various positions:-
