Police Detain Two Men And Seize Pistol

NIBONG TEBAL, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Police have detained two men aged 38 and 39 suspected of being involved in several extortion and firearm cases in the Seberang Perai Selatan area.

Seberang Perai Selatan OCPD Supt Shafien Mamat said the two were arrested on Aug 15 in separate locations in Jawi Jaya and Taman Seruling Emas here.

"After obtaining information from an extortion victim a day earlier, police launched an operation to trace the two men.

"The victim told the police, the two had approached him on a motorbike before taking out a pistol and threatening him to hand over money and his valuables," Shafien told reporters here Monday.

He said based on information given the two men were subsequently detained.

Shafien said police later found a firearm believed to have been used in extortion activities.

"Police have seized a China-made pistol with six 9mm bullets," he said.

Preliminary investigation found that the 39-year-old man had 18 previous criminal records including for robbery, burglary and drug related offences as well as being wanted for several cases in other states.
