PETALING JAYA: The police raid on the PKR headquarters hit a snag when it was discovered that there were defects in the search warrant.
Some 30 policemen had gone to the party headquarters in Tropicana Damansara here purportedly to look for a computer belonging to PKR supreme council member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, popularly known as Chegu Bard.
The police were also waiting for the Seremban-based Badrul's arrival.
However, the raiding team with officers from Seremban left empty handed after recording the statements of two PKR officials, including the party's communications director Jonson Chong.
Badrul is being investigated over an article in his blog which allegedly insulted the King and the royal institution.
He was arrested on July 9 in Seremban and was quizzed for three hours. His house was also ransacked on the same day.
Meanwhile, Chong said the search warrant was defective because it did not state the section under which Badrul's alleged offence falls.
“This is a technical error on the part of the magistrate," he said.
According to Chong, the warrant should have stated Sedition Act 1948 but the document only contained the section which empowers the magistrate to issue the warrant.
Furthermore, he said Badrul had admitted to have made the blog posting. “There is nothing to hide. He never objected or denied the posting,” he added.
Chong also said there was no reason to search the PKR headquarters since the published material was available online and any extra information should be obtained from Badrul or his computer.
"They agreed not to proceed with the search and recorded statements from me and PKR organising secretary Radin Shamsul Kamal,” he added.
