Indians Laud Government Decision

The government’s decision to appoint Dato’ G. Palanivel as a senator to bring him back into mainstream politics of the Barisan Nasional fold received an overwhelming approval by the Malaysian Indian community.

By Dato’ Vyran T. Raj

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak’s decision to make Datuk G. Palanivel a senator is a masterstroke and a timely move to consolidate the Indian community,” said the president of Nammavar, Dato’ Vyran T. Raj.

“Malaysian Indians were vastly divided before the last general elections, rendering them susceptible to manipulation by deviationists and opportunists from opposition parties,” added Dato’ Vyran.

He hailed the prime minister’s strategic approach in uniting all Malaysians under the 1Malaysia concept which has already gathered waves of momentum throughout the country.

Dato’ Vyran also praised Senator Dato’ G. Palinivel as an exemplary leader of vision, commitment, dedication and community service.

“Nammavar fully backs Senator Dato’ G. Palanivel and is sure he would more than reward the prime minister’s trust and confidence placed in him through his inimitable people management,” quipped Dato’ Vyran.

As the president of Nammavar, Dato’ Vyran is optimistic that the Indian community realizes the government’s efforts in creating tailor-made socio-economic reforms and ramifications which promise rapid progress.

Nammavar, a social organization representing more than 400,000 Indian families, strongly highlighted its abhorrence to caste politics which was perpetuated by past leaders in MIC.

“Caste and class politics should be totally uprooted to prevent people from being unjustly divided by conniving leaders,” said Dato’ Vyran.

“The majority of Indians now prefer equality without the derogatory classification by caste and class which was the mainstay of past MIC leaders,” added Dato’ Vyran.

Nammavar is counting on Dato’ G. Palanivel to abolish the caste and class mindset from the Indian psyche so as to take the community into a realm of true understanding, cooperation and mutual respect.

“Without taking bold and revolutionary steps to rid the Indian society of its archaic caste system, MIC would evolve into a laggard and a political dinosaur, indirectly becoming a major liability to Barisan Nasional in the next general elections,” added Dato’ Vyran.

“We cannot allow another disaster by letting history repeat itself,” continued Dato’ Vyran. “What made Barisan lose prized states in March 2008 can be attributed to: the caste system which divided the people beyond redemption; neglect of the down-trodden: and the erosion of trust and confidence in MIC leadership due to the failed investments in MAIKA Holdings.”

Dato’ Vyran pointed out that the government has always allocated vast sums of funds to the Indian community through MIC which were not fairly distributed, thus putting the government in a bad light.

“The Indian community is fully aware of unmitigated abuse of funds, nepotism, cronyism, corruption, misappropriation of public investments, misrepresentations and failed leadership within MIC,” said Dato’ Vyran.

“Fortunately the government has learnt from past developments and is quick in its remedial action through the visionary leadership of our prime minister,” surmised Dato’ Vyran.

He expressed delight in envisioning a positive future for the Indian community through the close cooperation between the prime minister and Dato’ G. Palanivel.

Dato’ Vyran opined that this is the best opportunity for Palanivel to become the government’s dialogue partner through efficient negotiations for Indian privileges, mutual consensus and solid representation of the people’s aspirations.

“We must not forget that Dato’ G. Palanivel is a seasoned politician with finesse, who has proven his mettle in his past portfolios within the government,” commended Dato’Vyran.

Dato’ Vyran cited the following as the key assets of Dato’ G. Palanivel:

* Party loyalist
* Strictly no insubordination, yet flexible
* Great listener to people’s issues
* Strives for unity, harmony and social progress
* Proactive
* Humble and easily accessible to all
* Conscientious worker
* Above all, trustworthy

He asked all within MIC and Barisan Nasional to close ranks and seriously focus on the government’s planning and preparations for the next general elections through dedicated service to the rakyat.
