Anwar's Sodomy Trial Enters Third Day

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- The sodomy trial of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim enters its third day today with accuser Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan continuing his testimony at the High Court here.

Friday's proceedings, which started at 9.51am, saw Mohd Saiful -- who is still under examination-in-chief by lead prosecutor Solicitor-General II Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden -- giving testimony on samples taken from his body.

Mohd Saiful, 25, who is a former aide of Anwar, is the first witness to take the stand when the trial started before Justice Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah on Wednesday.

Anwar, 63, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat advisor and Permatang Pauh member of parliament, is charged with sodomising Mohd Saiful at Unit 11-5-1 Kondominium Desa Damansara, Jalan Setiakasih, Bukit Damansara, between 3.01pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008.

He is charged under Section 377B of the Penal Code and faces up to 20 years in jail and whipping upon conviction.

The trial takes place 18 months after Anwar was first charge in court in August 2008.
