BN Must Avoid Remaining In Comfort Zone To Achieve Bigger Success - Najib

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) must avoid the prospect of remaining in the comfort zone to avoid members losing their inspiration and desire to achieve bigger goals said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"Success after success achieved may lead to the notion that we are in a very satisfactory level but that should not lead to being comfortable and being complacent, thus losing the desire to face bigger challenges.

"We have to break out of the comfort zone and don't forget our struggle in facing challenges to ensure success for the party and lead the country to achieve bigger goals," he told reporters after opening the Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah's (PBRS) congress here on Tuesday.

He added that political parties like BN which has been in existence for a long time and been the national front of the country and contributed to the struggle of independence, can become powerless, if the party fails to re-invent itself.

"What more, if the party becomes irrelevant, all the contributions and sacrifices will only remain in the history but cannot afford to bring about changes desired by the people, especially the younger generation," he said.

"We will turn BN into an exciting party which has the 'ump' to bring about changes...as a party in power today, we can make the change.

"What we want is for BN to be seen as the voice of the people, the party that fights for people's interest because the opposition only has a common objective but no common ideology or ideals with common objective, that is to bring down BN," he said.

"Can a party with only common interest administer this country?...So, be confident that BN is still 'the party', provided we continuously refresh the image of BN and must be seen as a progressive and dynamic party without internal conflict."

Najib added that though PBRS was considered a small party, in reality though the party continues to remain strong in the heart and soul of BN leaders because its sincerity, commitment and struggles towards BN's cause has never been in question.

"I am proud to see the fire of BN's struggles burning in everyone. I believe PBRS will continue to be BN's partner because of the strong desire and inspiration, even in the congress, I can see that," he told the delegates before thanking PBRS President Tan Sri Joseph Kurup for his leadership.

He added that all BN component parties, be it small or big, has a role to play.

"If we can unite all the support from the component parties during a general election, it will mean that we will become stronger.

Meanwhile, Kurup in his said that in efforts to re-invent PBRS, the party was ready to review its constitution to cater for the changes that would further strengthen the party.

He said PBRS currently has 79,521 members compared with 75,579 members in April 2008.
