Opposition To Attend Perak Assembly Sitting

IPOH, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The opposition coalition in Perak will now attend the state assembly sitting scheduled for Oct 28, after having announced a boycott on the grounds that the notice issued by Speaker Datuk R. Ganesan was invalid.

Their spokesman, Datuk Seri Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin, told reporters the decision to attend the sitting was made after they received a notice from former speaker V. Sivakumar yesterday informing them that the sitting would be held on the same day at the same time and place.

He said the opposition still regarded Sivakumar as the Speaker of the Perak State Assembly and would adhere to the notice issued by him, and asked Ganesan to withdraw his (Ganesan's) notice, claiming it was invalid.

When asked if there would be a tussle for the speaker's chair at the sitting, Mohamad Nizar said everyone should "wait and see" because he himself could not foretell what would happen.

On other developments, Mohamad Nizar said the Perak PAS leadership would not attend the launch of the 1Malaysia concept at the Perak Stadium on Sunday because PAS' Aidilfitri celebration in Batu Gajah had been planned earlier for the same time on the same day and could not be postponed.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir had invited the people of Perak, including the opposition, to attend the launch of the 1Malaysia concept by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
