A-G to handle royal rumble, cops have submitted papers

The Star

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have handed over investigation papers on the alleged clash between two royal families to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said with this move, the police have completed their work and it was now up to the A-G’s Chambers to decide on the next course of action.

Asked why the police took more than 11 months to conclude investigations into the case, he said that the papers had been handed in earlier, but the A-G’s Chambers had requested for additional information.

“I was also told that the two sides had at one point tried to resolve the problem on their own but what is wrong is wrong, and the papers have now been handed over to the A-G’s Chambers,” he said.

Last week, Tunku Nadzimuddin Tunku Mudzaffar, a grandson of the late Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negri Sembilan, openly accused Raja Muda of Johor Tunku Ismail Idris of putting a gun to his head and attacking him at a hotel in October last year.

This came about after a scuffle which broke out earlier at a nightspot.

The alleged brawl had mostly been kept underwraps until Tunku Nadzimuddin gave a press conference last Thursday, in which he voiced his disappointment with what he felt was a lack of action from the police in probing the case.

Palace sources from Johor said the allegations were baseless and that the Raja Muda was not involved in the fight especially since he was an army officer who was trained to be disciplined.

The Johor royal family was of the view that the alleged assault came out in the open now because they did not oblige to the Negri Sembilan royalty’s demand for a RM50mil compensation and unconditional apology.
