BN component parties told to reform before general election

By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani - The Malaysian Insider

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 28 – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged the leaders of Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to follow the government’s lead in bringing transformation to the people.

The Umno deputy president believes this will change people’s perception towards the coalition.

“Under the leadership of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the process of change can already be seen. New government policies have been announced from time to time and the process of transformation by the government has already begun.

“The effects can be seen but reform at the party level is too slow,” he explained.

He added that component parties must take the initiative to solve internal problems and strengthen party unity.

Muhyiddin fears that the people will lose their trust and confidence in the government and BN if the country does not experience any visible changes.

“For us, that is important because if the process is not done urgently, then we are worried that the people will say that there has not been any change,” he said

Muhyiddin pointed out that Umno has began the process of reforms by amending the party’s constitution.

“Maybe some might find the amendment to the constitution not important but this will reshape Umno’s image,” he said.

He reiterated that public perception will play a pivotal role in the next general election.
