MIC Elections 2009: Who is behind Makkal Sakti Party?

The Traveler, Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Malaysian Makkal Sakti Party’s (MMSP) lightning speed registeration is raising eyebrows of many Malaysians. That too, the man who is heading the new party, Thanenthiren, was the former Hindraf national coordinator. Only months ago he was rubbing shoulders with opposition Justice Party (PKR) leaders and sought to become their candidate in the Bukit Selambau by-election.

An intense lobbying using Hindraf’s popularity to pressure, and later intense begging, Anwar Ibrahim to select him for the by-election failed. His dream to be Kedah EXCO shattered. Not only that, he was removed as Hindraf’s coordinator, too. Another blow which he could not digest that sent him to hospital.

Resting on hospital bed, he was giving photo shoots to the media like the typical Tamil Nadu politicians to gain public sympathy. He expected all the top leaders in the country to visit him as if he sacrificed his entire life to the Indian community and thus deserved to be treated in high esteem like the great Tamil Nadu chief minister Karunanithi.

Now, Thanenthiren has joined the very people who oppressed, cheated and left the Indian community downtrodden for 52 years. He is rubbing shoulders with the ruling party oppressors for a new vehicle in order to achieve his selfish agenda by betraying his community. More aptly, he is prepared to be Ettappan.

Reliable sources said, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Mohamed Nazri was the man behind the speedy registration of MMSP. Ironically, Indians have short memory. They have forgotten that Nazri insulted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanithi when the later voiced his concern over Hindraf’s historic protest in November 2007.

How did Thanenthiren manage to establish contact with Nazri and held a meeting with Prime Minister Najib? Certainly, some big guns are involved. A few stories are floating.

One story is that former MIC deputy president S Subramaniam having his hand in splitting Hindraf and the formation of MMSP. The ruling UMNO leaders feel a turnaround of at least 15% Indian votes is necessary for them retain in power and very much skeptical of MIC delivering this in the near future under Samy Vellu leadership.

At the launching of MMSP, some of Subra’s supporters were prominently seated and most notably Klang businessman popularly known as OMS Thiagarajan, a well known and respected philanthropist in the Indian community.

Both Nazri and Thiagarajan were seen moving closely attending several Indian functions. That speaks volume on the speedy MMSP registration.

Secondly, MIC party elections are to be held in September this year. Subra has already announced his candidacy for the MIC deputy presidency, the position he lost in the previous election to Palanivel.

But, this time around Samy Vellu is supposed to let the contest free for all. There seems to be an unsigned peace agreement between Samy and Subra after March 8th general elections where MIC candidates were routed.

Of course both guys don’t trust each other. In the recent MIC divisional elections Samy Vellu’s men or women for the matter, worked overtime to ensure their candidates are elected as delegates’.

Kamala Ganapathi, former Selangor EXCO, with Samy’s good son Vell Paari’s blessing was entrusted to kill K P Samy at the divisional level itself so that he will not qualify to contest higher positions in the party but their plan failed. KP won handsomely.

Sources say, Samy Vellu is planning to invalidate some of the divisional elections won by Subra’s men on trumped up charges, a routine Samy’s dirty tactic to ensure his lineup make through. According to Bernama report today, Samy Vellu has already endorsed Palanivel for MIC deputy presidency at a closed door secret meeting.

Knowing all these, Subra and his supporters are already polishing their guns for an all out battle and a source said that it is imminent, shots will be fired. However, Subra is not prepared to be defeated for the second time. His Plan B: create havoc to the maximum and walkout of MIC in a grand way to lead MMSB.
