KOTA BAHARU, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi
Awang made no mention of the party's proposal to implement Hudud law in
his policy speech at the party's 58th Congress at the Kelantan Islamic
Tarbiyah Centre here Friday.
Addressing the 1,116 delegates for about two hours, he focused more on
PAS' preparations for the 13th general election and the establishment of
a welfare state.
Also present were party spiritual advisor Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat,
Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and
DAP national deputy chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw.
The silence on Hudud law was seen as inconsistent with a statement by
PAS Dewan Ulama chief Datuk Harun Taib last night, that the opposition
had consented to allow it for implementation, if it formed the next
government.
Meanwhile, DAP chairman Karpal Singh stressed that there would be no compromise on his party's stance on the Hudud issue.
